Many of the area’s most scenic routes are part of the Rockcut Trail system, a collection of interconnected coastal paths stretching across the Twillingate Islands. Each trail has its own charm, from wildflower meadows and sheltered forests to breathtaking lookout points perfect for iceberg viewing.

Tips for Hiking in Every Season

In spring, watch for icebergs drifting past as seabirds return to nest along the cliffs. Summer brings long, sunlit days filled with wildflowers, warm breezes, whale and bird watching, and ocean views that stretch for miles. During the autumn, these trails take on a new energy as runners tackle the Rockcut Ultra race, while hikers enjoy crisp air, colourful landscapes, and the chance to gather wild berries along the way. Even in winter, the landscape shifts again, and many paths, including sections of the Rockcut trails, become perfect for snowshoeing adventures.

Whenever you hit the trail, a little preparation goes a long way:

  • Check the weather before heading out; coastal conditions can change quickly.
  • Dress in layers and bring water, snacks, and a fully charged phone.
  • Stay on marked trails to protect both yourself and the landscape.
  • Tell someone your route if you’re hiking alone.
  • Leave no trace; take only photos, leave only footprints.
